Why Guidi Strainers Outperform the Competition
11th Mar 2026
Looking for a reliable, long-lasting water strainer that can operate under demanding conditions? Experienced yacht builders and repairers rely on Guidi strainers.
From saltwater durability to long service life, here’s why Guidi strainers outperform the competition.
Dependability and Longevity
Unlike the Groco, Perko, and many other water strainers, which have plastic bodies with bronze ends and connections, Guidi strainers have an all-bronze body. Lower-cost options are vulnerable to degradation that weakens the structure over time and can lead to a variety of major issues. If you’re looking for dependable performance and extended life in continuous seawater exposure, marine-grade bronze is the best option.
Performance That Protects Other Systems
A well-made strainer does more than filter water. It protects your high-value marine systems. Many marine systems depend on clean, uninterrupted, or always available seawater intake. Debris can cause damage to other components, decreased performance, and shortened product life span.
Easy Access
Guidi strainers make maintenance easier because they can be inspected and cleaned with little effort.
- No special tools required to access
- Clear inspection tops for easy debris checks
- Easily accessible baskets for routine cleaning
Guidi’s clear-lid design allows you to inspect debris accumulation from above. Unlike clear housings that quickly become fouled and lose visibility, the Guidi lid stays clearer over time because it can be wiped clean during routine basket service. The result is faster visual checks without disassembling the strainer.
Options for Custom Installations
Guidi strainers are available in a full range of sizes in two configurations:
- Side in/Side out
- Bottom in/Side out (L shape)
The arrangement options offer flexibility so you can choose the layout that best fits your existing system. Most sizes are also available with flanged or threaded connections, making it easier to match existing plumbing during new builds or retrofits.
Hazardous Applications
Guidi strainers are also available with a bronze lid for use in hazardous environments. In certain applications, classification societies such as Lloyd's Register, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and RINA may require non-transparent components.
A solid bronze lid removes the clear inspection window and supports compliance in areas where sparks or material restrictions are a concern.
More Secure Mounting
Guidi Strainers are designed to mount on a horizontal surface. Or in the case of the L, it mounts on the pipe and is stabilized with a side bracket. (The competition hangs on less secure mounting brackets.)
A more secure mount means:
- More rugged installation to withstand impacts from other nearby activities.
- Lower risk of catastrophic failure in the event of a nearby fire
- Greater resistance to accidental bumps or being stepped on in tight spaces
Anti-Fouling Protection for Warm Waters
For vessels spending time in high-growth waters — South Florida summers, Caribbean seasons, Southeast Asia — marine growth builds up quickly. Guidi’s optional Tecnoseal anti-fouling kit helps reduce marine growth within the strainer and adjacent systems. By slowing biofouling accumulation, it supports more stable flow rates and reduces maintenance.
Widely Used by Leading Yacht Builders
Most European builders use Guidi Strainers, including Feadship, Sunseeker, Princess, Azimut, Benetti, Ferretti, Sanlorenzo, Majesty/Gulf Craft in Dubai, and many others. Widespread usage across high-end builds reflects Guidi’s proven performance in real-world conditions. In fact, the design is so successful that other companies have now copied it since the patent expiration.
