Compact-Lift: A Smarter Grey Water Shower Sump Solution

Compact-Lift: A Smarter Grey Water Shower Sump Solution

26th Jan 2026

Some products stand out because they reliably solve a common problem. The Compact-Lift grey water transfer unit from Planus is one of those products. It’s a thoughtfully engineered solution to the typical troublesome shower sump.

The Compact-Lift is similar in size to the most common shower sumps used in small to medium-sized pleasure crafts.  Compared to other common shower sumps, its design offers better reliability and performance. The Compact-Lift includes features not found on most competing brands, such as a more powerful pump, dedicated vent connection, overflow protection, and IP68-rated water resistance.

What Is a Compact-Lift?

The Planus Compact-Lift is a pumping system that moves grey water (used water from showers, sinks, and other sources) when gravity alone can’t.

Fully Watertight

One of the Planus Compact-Lift’s most unique features is its IP68 ingress protection rating. The sump is provided ready to go, with only two wires to connect to the incoming power.  All other connections are inside the water-tight enclosure within the sump box.

Most sumps use a conventional bilge float switch mounted in the sump to directly control the sump pump, and a few use a capacitance sensor level control in the same manner. The Compact-Lift uses a patented sealed membrane system that operates a micro switch completely isolated from the liquid.  A relay is activated to energize the pump with all components and wiring inside a watertight enclosure within the sump. This type of level control is a time-tested method of level sensing, which then energizes a relay to power the pump rather than have the float switch carry the full current drawn by the pump.

Flexible Installation Options

Compact-Lift is designed to adapt to a wide range of onboard layouts:

  • Multiple inlet options: The unit includes two 1-1/2” inlet fittings—one on each end—for standard wastewater connections, plus a smaller 7/8” (22.5 mm) inlet for low-volume sources such as AC condensate or for venting.
  • Flexible outlet configurations: Included are straight or 90° outlet fittings to accommodate different piping runs.  Both straight and 90-degree fittings adapt to a 40mm pipe.
  • Versatile ventilation: A 7/8” or 22.5 mm vent connection that can be positioned on the top or side.
  • External non-return valve: Easy to inspect and maintain, offering reliable protection against backflow.

These details may seem small, but they make a significant difference during installation and service.

Power Options for Marine Applications

Compact-Lift is available in both 12Vdc, 24Vdc, and 230Vac, making it suitable for a wide range of vessels without the need for additional power conversion.

Why We Like It

At Environmental Marine, we look closely at how products perform in real marine environments, not just on paper. After handling and reviewing the Compact-Lift in person, what stands out is not just its compact size, but how thoughtfully the engineering addresses common pain points found in traditional grey water systems.

For shipyards, installers, and yacht owners looking for a dependable grey water transfer solution in limited spaces, Compact-Lift is worth serious consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Compact-Lift different from a standard shower sump?

Unlike traditional float-switch sump boxes, Compact-Lift uses a pressure-switch system with no moving mechanical components inside the tank. This reduces the risk of blockage and improves reliability in grey water applications.

What types of water can it handle?

Compact-Lift is suitable for grey water from showers, sinks, and similar non-toilet sources. It is designed specifically for non-clean water environments where debris, soap, and residue are present.

Can it be installed in wet or flood-prone areas?

Yes. Compact-Lift is rated IP68, meaning it is fully protected against water ingress. It can be safely installed in wet compartments, including bilges or areas exposed to splashing or washdown.

How compact is the unit?

Compact-Lift is just 169mm H x 233mm W x 377.9 L without the inlet and outlet fittings, making it ideal for tight spaces, low-profile installations, and refits where access is limited.

How many inlets does it have?

The unit includes:

  • Two 40 mm inlets with included adapters to 1-½” or 38mm hose
  • One 22.5 mm inlet or 7/8”
  • All inlets are supplied with plugs, allowing flexible configuration based on the installation.

Does it include backflow protection?

Yes. Compact-Lift features an external non-return valve that is easy to inspect and maintain, providing reliable protection against backflow.

Is this suitable for new builds and refits?

Yes. Its compact size, flexible connections, and watertight design make Compact-Lift well suited for both new installations and retrofit projects.
